Mount Abu

[ Edit ] Gaumukh Temple

It is at Gaumukh temple that Saint Vashishtha performed his yagna. It is also here that Arbuada, the mighty dark serpent, helped Nandi, the cow of Lord Shiva who was trapped in the deep gorge. A sculpted hill temple dedicated to Arbuada stands here. The temple contains images of Vhashishtha, Lord Rama and Lord Krishna, both who are considered to be incarnations of Vishnu.

Gaumukh meaning cow’s mouth derives its name from the natural spring that flows from a sculpted cows head. The water is believed to be sacred and meant to have purifying properties.
