Leh
[ Edit ] Overview
The beautiful destination of Leh, in the Ladakh region of the State of Jammu & Kashmir, was the capital of the Himalayan kingdom of Ladakh. With a strong Tibetian - Buddhist culture and colorful gompas / temples, Leh is a magnet for devout Buddhists and is also a favoured trekking locale.
The most attractive feature of the landscape around Leh are the Buddhist monasteries. Situated on the isolated hillocks with pleasing aesthetics and interesting architecture, these monasteries provide the focus for the faith of the highly religious Buddhist people of the region.
Leh is situated at an altitude of 3,500 meters (11,485 feet) and dominated by the now ruined Leh Palace, former home of the royal family of Ladakh.
