Recent news and developments at Buxa National Park:
- November 9, 2009: With a relatively low density of tigers given the size of the Buxa National Park authorities at the Park plan to start captive breeding to help maintain and grow the population of the big cats at Buxa. Given the aging population of the tigers at Buxa National Park, there is a need to import tigers in from other National Parks in India. Tigers were also recently relocated to Sariska National Park for a similar purpose with the intent of releasing them into the wild following captive breeding.
Manas National Park and Kaziranga National Park in Assam, and Dudhwa National Park in Uttar Pradesh reputedly have similar terrains to Buxa National Park. Thus it is believed that any relocation of tigers to Buxa would be from these parks and would would require the permission of the respective state governments as well as clearance by the Centre.
