[ Edit ] History

It is believed that Lord Krishna, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, was born as the eighth son of the Yadava prince Vasudev and his wife Devaki. In order to save him from the murderous intentions of his maternal uncle King Kansa, the ruler of Mathura, Krishna was taken away soon after birth to the village of Gokul. It was here that Lord Krishna was raised by his foster parents Nand and Yashoda.
