Hyderabad, the capital of the state of Andhra Pradesh, issituated at an altitude of 536m above sea level. Hydearbad was founded bu Muhammed Quli Qutub Shah of the Qutub Shahi dynasty, the ruling family of the 16th century fort walled city of Golconda. Hyderabad was founded to releive Golconda city of the water shortage at that time. It is a city with an endearing history that dates back to over 400 years.
The city of Hyderabad is based on the banks of the Musi River and the Deccan Plateau. It is also called the City of Pearls for its pearl industry and City of Nizams. Hyderbad is also home to the second largest film industry of India, Telugu Film Industry called as Tollywood and the famous Ramoji Film City.
Charminar is the major landamark of Hyderabad city built by its founder Muhammed Quli Qutub Shah who ruled Golconda Fort city before moving his capiutal to Hyderabad. Mecca Masjid, close to Charminar is the second largest mosque in India and is beelived to have some sacred relics of Prophet Muhammed, founder of Islam religion.
Hyderabad and Secunderabad are considered twin cities near the Hussain Sagar Lake, more commonly known as Tank Bund . However over time, the two cities have grown into one big city. Today the city of Hyderabad is the 5th largest city in India, widely transformed into one of the busiest and fastest growing IT hubs. However the city still preserves its old Nawabi hospitality and age-old traditions and monuments.
In recent times, the Andhra Pradesh government is preparing a dossier, to win the status of World Heritage Site tag by UNESCO, for Hyderabad's most famous monuments- Charminar, Golconda Fort and Qutub Shahi Tombs. These Tombs are of the seven kings of Qutub Shahi dynasty who ruled over Hyderabad.
Hyderabad International Airport has recently been honoured among the top five international airports for their service and ambience.

Founded in 1586 by the fifth sultan of the Qutb Shahi Dynasty, Mohammad Quli Qutb Shah, the city has a few legends on how its name came into existence. Popular legend suggests that the sultan was in love with a commoner called Bhagmati and the city was then called Bhagyanagar. Later when the sultan married her, she changed her name to Hyder Mahal and thereby the name of the city was changed to Hyderabad.
