Ganapatipule

[ Edit ] Overview

Ganapatipule is one of the many spectacular beaches on the Konkan coastline running from Mangalore in the south to Ratnagiri in the north along the west coast of India. A sea town, Ganapatipule lies long the shores of the Arabian Sea and  is a secluded, but beautiful village in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra state.

The name Ganapatipule is derived from the words, Ganpati which means the Lord of Ganas or army and Pule meaning sand dunes

The pristine beach in Ganapatipule is an unbroken 6 kms stretch with crystal clear waters, golden and silver sands, uncluttered and free from noisy crowds, with little or no sign of commercialism that is common in many of the beaches of the Konkan coast.Untarred, red colored narrow mud roads,  clean, small thatched houses with courtyards in green surroundings and multiples of fruit bearing trees like mango, betelnut, jackfruit, coconut etc make Ganapatipule a perfect picture postcard place with an enchanting atmosphere.

In addition to the amazing beach, visitors come to Ganapatipule to pray at the famous 400 year old Ganapati Swayambhu Temple (believed to be is one of the eight significant Ganapatis or “Ashta Ganapatis” of India) and the nearby Jaigad Fort which provides for great views of the sea.   Ganapatipule arguably also has one of the Best Beaches in India
