Bylakuppe

[ Edit ] Overview

Bylakuppe is one of the rare places in South India where you can visit and experience Tibetian monastries and their form of Bhuddism.  Located near Coorg (Kodagu), Bylakuppe, in West Mysore district of Karnataka, is home to two adjacent Tibetian refugee settlements, Lugsum Samdupling and Dickyi Larsoe.

The 15,000+ Tibetans who stay in Bylakuppe, carry on with their traditions, many of whom have never visited their homeland due to fear of persecution by the Chinese government.  There are several monasteries, nunneries and temples in the major Tibetan Buddhist traditions and it is truly a microcosmic slice of Tibetian culture and traditions.
