- Kolkata: Kolkata or Culcutta as it is formally known is the capital of West Bengal and is the second largest city by area in India, after Mumbai. The city came to be named Kolkata from one of the 3 villages in the area called Kalikata. Calcutta served as the capital of India during the British India until 1911. Calcutta is well noted for its revolutionary history, from the Indian struggle for independence to the leftist and trade union movements.
- Darjeeling: Darjeeling is the headquarters of Darjeeling district of West Bengal in the Shiwalik Hills. The town is internationally famous for its tea industry and the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway which was decleared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. It is also known as the "Summer Capital".
